Report: Castro doesn't have cancer, is expected to recover.
HAVANA (AP) — A U.S. congressman says he's been told by Cuban officials that Fidel Castro doesn't have cancer — and is expected to recover.
Congressman Jeff Flake is visiting Cuba with a delegation of U.S.. lawmakers.
The Arizona Republican says Cuban officials insist Castro's illness "is not cancer, nor is it terminal." And he says they tell him Castro "will be back."
He gave no other details on the 80-year-old's condition in a phone interview with The Associated Press.
Castro hasn't appeared in public since July, when he announced he would undergo intestinal surgery and temporarily cede power to his brother.
U.S. officials have said they believe Castro suffers from some kind of inoperable cancer and won't live through the end of 2007.
